Junglee Pictures’ engaging courtroom drama Haq is
showing remarkable growth at the box office, with weekday collections exceeding
expectations. Industry estimates indicate that footfalls have almost doubled
between Friday and Tuesday which is a very rare trend in today’s market.
The film, directed by Suparn S. Varma and starring
Yami Gautam Dhar and Emraan Hashmi, opened to steady numbers on Friday and has
built strong word-of-mouth through the weekend. Multiplex chains in key metros
such as Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow and Pune reported a consistent rise in
occupancy, while Tier-2 centres have seen encouraging walk-in traffic since
Monday.
Trade analysts attribute the growth to the film’s
strong emotional pull, positive organic word-of-the-mouth and its courtroom
tension that is relevant even today. “The hold is exceptional for a subject
like this,” said a leading distributor. “Haq has found its audience and the
people are watching it for the performances and talking about it afterwards,
which is exactly what keeps footfalls growing mid-week.”
The film’s weekday trend mirrors that of titles
that relied on content-driven momentum. With Tuesday’s footfalls almost 100
percent higher than the opening day, exhibitors are optimistic about an
extended run through the coming weekend.
“Haq is the kind of film that grows on
word-of-mouth, not opening numbers. We’re seeing repeat viewers and walk-ins
increase in cities like Lucknow and Jaipur. You don’t often see a 90–100% jump
on Tuesday. This trend line is what exhibitors dream of lately." a trade
insider added.
Produced by Junglee Pictures, Baweja Studios, and
Insomnia Films, helmed by Suparn S Varma, headlined by Yami Gautam Dhar and
Emraan Hashmi, HAQ released nationwide on Friday and is running to packed
theatres.
