A bone-chilling thriller

Rating: 3.5*

Director Shashanka Ghosh’s straightforward noir feel thriller never once deviates from the script and keeps the proceedings simple. He keeps you hooked during the entire runtime of 124 minutes of this edge-of-the-seat thriller. To top it all, Karthik Aaryan as Freddy gives possibly one of the most non-glamorous and finest performances of his career. If he was good in Dhamaka, he simply overtakes that performance by a mile. See it to believe what he brings out in his complex and eccentric character.

A Mumbai-based socially awkward but successful dentist Dr. Freddy Ginwala (Karthik) is adept at cracking pathetic jokes and also desperate to get married. But thanks to his nature, he is rejected by girls who make him a laughingstock. He stays alone in his apartment with his best friend Hardy (a turtle).

During a wedding, he approaches a girl Kainaaz Irani (Alaya F with a super surprising performance) on the insistence of his aunt Persis but is pushed away by Kainaaz’s aggressive and abusive husband Rustom (Sajjad Delafrooz in a small role). The next day Kainaaz comes to Freddy’s clinic to extract her wisdom tooth. Freddy gets attracted to her and starts stalking her by camping in his car outside her home. Freddy soon realizes that Kainaaz is a victim of domestic abuse. Freddy and Kainaaz get up, close and personal when Rustom goes to Pune and they decide to get rid of Rustom. Freddy plans elaborately and bumps off Rustom. But it is then Freddy gets the biggest shock of his life.

The midpoint in the film makes the viewers jump up with an unexpected twist. The climax is simply shocking.

The screenplay (Parvez Shaikh) and the dialogues (Aseem Arora) keep the viewers hooked. making a solid impact. Special mention must be made of the cinematography (Ayananka Bose) which is solid and in sync with the feel of the film.

Crisp execution and a superb performance by Karthik Aaryan make this a highly recommended thriller.
