Vicky Kaushal is the Good Newz in 'Bad Newz'

Cast: Vicky Kaushal, Tripti Dimri, Ammy Virk, Neha Dhupia, Sheeba Chadha, Faisal Rashid, Ananya Pandey, Neha Sharma

Rating: 3*

Seeing Bad Newz reminds us of the David Dhawan-Govinda combo films of the 90s. Director Anand Tiwari keeps the fun quotient on with jokes (at times it falls flat also), over-the-top performances, funny dialogues, and the use of old songs and Hindi movies. The story by Ishita Moitra is different and is definitely a big plus. But Vicky Kaushal is the cherry on the cake. He plays to the gallery, looks hot (the Tauba Tauba song), rocks the show, and is the scene stealer. You cannot take your eyes off him. He is the soul of the film.

Akhil Chadha (Kaushal) ‘sabse vadda’ who runs a famous chap shop Chadha Chap Corner in West Delhi, falls head over heels at a marriage function with chef Saloni Bagga (a fine Tripti Dimri) whose childhood dream was to be a winner of a Meraki Star. Sparks fly between them and in a jiffy they get married. But cracks soon begin to happen in their marital life (as Akhil is a phonomanic) and finally they divorce with Saloni moving to Mussoorie and joining as a head chef at Hotel Savoy which is owned by Gurbir Pannu (a fair Ammy Virk who gets overshadowed by Vicky). Saloni gets drawn towards Gurbir and in a night of drunken revelry they get intimate. After going to her room, she finds Akhil waiting for her (he still loves her and cannot forget her) and they both end up in bed. Six weeks later she is pregnant with twins and the doctor informs her that both Chadha and Pannu are the fathers.

The film takes a complete detour in the climax making it worthwhile. The second half has touching scenes and is not as funny as the first half. Neha Dhupia (Ma Corona) who is a friend of Saloni is good and so is Sheeba Chaddha as Akhil’s mother. Neha Sharma sizzles in a cameo. Ananya Pandey too looks stunning in a cameo. Comedian Khayali Ram (as a detective and Akhil's uncle) is a disaster. They could have done away with this track. Faisal Rashid as the gynaecologist is decent. The music especially ‘Tauba Tauba’ & ‘Jaanam’ are winners. But the Duplicate remake of ‘Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam’ takes the cake.

The film keeps you entertained and so does Vicky Kaushal with Tripti Dimri sizzling in the song ‘Jaanam’. A good time pass.
