Sheer Brosnan nostalgia

Cast: Pierce Brosnan, Morenna Baccharin & James Caan

Rating: 3*

It is always so wonderful to see Pierce Brosnan on screen, especially when he is playing the lead. He is suave, enigmatic, and charismatic and that sums up why we should see Fast Charlie. Plus the action and the presence of James Caan in his last screen appearance and also the wonderful Morenna Baccharin with her warm eyes all make up for this 90-minute flick. Yes, you want more but that’s it. No more - plain 90 minutes. Director Phillip Noyce makes Fast Charlie at breakneck speed and before you realize the movie is over.

Charlie Swift (Brosnan) residing in New Orleans, nicknamed Fast Charlie, an orderly man past 60 after a career in the Marines, strayed into the gangster business and stays with it. He is also loved by his godfatherly boss Stan Mullen (Caan) who lives by his words and does good to others who do good to him. He nor his crew go to other territories. But when an upcoming rival & overconfident gangster Beggar (Gbenga Akkinagbe) comes for Stan, Charlie goes all out to protect Stan with cold and clinical bump-offs. He is also aided by Marcie Kramer (Baccharin) a tag-on ex-wife of a killed gangster.

The film asks no questions and offers no answers. It is just the plain charisma of Brosnan. The dignity with which he carries the titular role makes it a nostalgic watch.
