New Delhi: After days of worry and uncertainties, the class XII CBSE board examinations for 2021 have been cancelled. The decision was taken after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high meeting on the issue. As per government sources, he was briefed about all possible options, as a result of the extensive discussions with all states and other stake holders.
A vast section of students and parents have been
continuously opposing the examinations The Supreme Court had adjourned the
hearing till June 3, Thursday after the AG assured the bench that a decision
would be taken in the next two days. The meeting was attended by key leaders
including the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Finance Minister Nirmala
Sitharman, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister of Textiles
Smriti Irani, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javdekar
and officials from the Education Ministry and the PMO.
The government had been mulling over three options which included
examinations of major subjects only; examinations of shorter duration in
multiple choice questions format or marking the students on the basis of past
three years result. However, the government has now decided to cancel the
examinations. The results which will be based on objective methodology and pre
designed norms will be declared soon. Students, unsatisfied with the results
will also be given a chance to appear for the examinations once the situation
is back to normal.
