Kolkata: Soon after his retirement on Monday evening, The Centre issued a show-cause notice to former West Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay over his absence during the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28 at Kalaikunda.
In the letter, Centre has invoked Section 51(b) of the Disaster Management Act against Alapan Bandyopadhyay and asked him to respond to the notice within three days, after which an FIR will be filed against him.
“By this act of abstaining himself from the review
meeting, taken by the PM who is
also the chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), in the aftermath of Cyclone Yaas as
part of his visit to the cyclone
affected areas in the state of West Bengal,
Alapan Bandopadhyay, Chief Secretary, Government
of West Bengal, has acted in a
manner tantamount to refusing to comply with lawful direction of the central government and is thus
violative of Section 51 of DMG
Act,” the letter said.
The West Bengal Governor, Jagdeep Dhankhar, took to Twitter and slammed Banerjee for her ‘false claims’ and tweeted that ‘May 28 is the Black Day of federal structure’.
Sources also slammed Banerjee’s claim that she
was kept waiting for 20 minutes
before submitting the review report to the Prime Minister.
“Maintaining the protocol she should have come
earlier as everyone does so when
the PM visits. PM landed at Kalaikunda at 1.59 pm. Mamata Banerjee landed at Kalaikunda after the PM at 2.10 pm.
It is clear that the PM was kept
waiting by the West Bengal Chief Minister,” added sources.
