Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested veteran TMC ministers Firhad Hakim and Subrata Mukherjee, former MLA Sovon Chatterjee and Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra on Monday.
The
CBI has filed chargesheets in court against all four and IPS S M H Mirza, another accused in this case, after taking the
Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar’s approval and sanction for prosecution. Investigations
are now on against all the accused.
The Trinamool Congress claimed that no notice
was served by the CBI before the arrests. The four politicians will be produced in Bankshall Court on Monday itself.
Calling it a political vendetta, TMC claimed no consent
was taken from the Speaker Biman Banerjee
before filing the chargesheet and that the state government was completely kept in the dark.
Coming down heavily on the arrests TMC MP
Saugata Roy said this is a politics of vengeance. "This kind of arrest is very unethical and is a political
vengeance."
Accusing the CBI of "illegal arrest"
of her party leaders without serving any
notice, the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached the CBI office in Nizam Palace. She volunteered to get
arrested herself, or else she would not
leave Nizam Palace, sources said. Banerjee is still sitting in front of the DIG (CBI) chamber in Nizam Palace, though it is not an official dharna.
TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh pointed out,
"Mukul Roy and Suvendu Adhikari too
were accused in the same case. Then why have
they not been arrested?"
