Kolkata: Accusing the CBI of "illegal arrest" of her party leaders, the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, reached the CBI office in Nizam Palace soon after her ministers and TMC leader were arrested.
She went to the 15th-floor office of the CBI and spoke to the top-level CBI officials. She also volunteered to get arrested herself, otherwise, she would not leave the Nizam Palace, sources said.
It is learnt that the CM is sitting in front of
the DIG (CBI) chamber in Nizam
Palace, though not on official dharna. She has refused to leave the place till
her party leaders get justice. Banerjee has been sitting for over two hours in
the CBI office.
Meanwhile, violating all Covid protocols and
lockdown norms, a large number of TMC
workers have assembled in front of the Nizam Palace on AJC Bose Road,
protesting against the arrest of their leaders. The number of supporters is increasing by the hour all
of them armed with banners, shouting slogans against the CBI, burning tyres,
hurling bottles and pelting stones.
Central forces are controlling the crowd in front
of the main gate of Nizam Palace. Keeping
in mind the Covid situation and the violence outside the CBI office, a virtual
hearing will be done in Bankshall Court. The accused are to be produced in court
today itself but there will no physical hearing.
