Bengali Cinema's biggest name Uttam Kumar is being celebrated all over in Bengal, 2026 being the screen legend's Birth Centenary year.
Take 5 Communications, a creative organization in Kolkata, paid tribute to the 'Mahanayak' through a musical evening on the 19th of September at Rotary Sadan Kolkata. The event titled GAANE BHUBAN BHORIYE DEBE was a curation of some timeless melodies from Uttam Kumar classics that have remained in the hearts of millions of Bengalis all over the world.
Jaydeep Sinha, Bishwajit Bagha, Apurba Roy Chowdhury, Dr. Bratati Bhattacharyya, Sudeshna Chakraborty, Prof. Dr. Sujoy Biswas, Sudip Ganguly, Shampa Das and Pranam Roy mesmerized the audience with their vocal renditions live on stage along with a few eminent personalities of the city from different walks of life who spoke about Uttam Kumar from their respective point of views.
An add on was a dance performance by students of St. Sebastian's School Kolkata that had much food for thought. A famous song from a Uttam Kumar film was interpreted in relevance to today's times and delivering a social message.
Senior Music Composer and Singer Sumit Roy who had composed music for a Uttam Kumar film took the stage for a while sharing his experiences and golden memories.
Others who shared their views included Kargil War Hero Col. Diptangshu Chaudhury, VP - MP Birla Cement Mr. Biswajit Matilal, Senior Advocate Mr. Vipul Kundalia, Renowned Dancer Ms. Tanni Chowdhury, Social Activist Rtn. Debjani Ghosh, among others.
