Based on a true murder that rocked Brazil in the last decade, Elize delves in to the life and mind of a hooker (Lorena Comparato), who weds one of her richie-rich Japanese client, only to discover his unstoppable extramarital flings. Pushed to the wall of anger, anguish and humiliation, she ends up doing something unimaginable...
The Direct-to-Netflix film, though predictable by nature, is quite engaging due to its non-linear narrative and a compelling performance from Lorena Comparato. Playing the titular character, she delivers a fantastic performance filled with the right blend of vulnerability and gumption.
Of course, the movie could have benefited from a deeper dive in to the police investigation, which feels somewhat underdeveloped. The present runtime of just one and half hours, could have been extended to fit that aspect of the story.
Nevertheless, Elize is certainly watch-worthy for a Sunday afternoon viewing!
