Director Indra Kumar comes up with the 4th instalment of his super successful ‘Dhamaal’ franchise. As in the earlier films, even this time he keeps the humour absolutely clean targeted directly at the family audience. He keeps the narrative very simple and punches it with enough masala to make it a crazy and zany entertainer. The film follows exactly the same pattern of treasure hunt that we had seen in the 2007 film ‘Dhamaal’ and in the 2019 film ‘Total Dhamaal’. Hence one can easily identify where the film is headed for. But yet the film is full of mad moments and a lot of references and one scene in particular that is straight out of Jim Carrey’s movie ‘Ace Ventura: The Pet Detective’. Kumar has also deftly handled the emotional quotient in the end.
A notorious pirate Shaitaan Singh had buried a treasure which a man Prithvi (Upendra Limaye) gets to know about. He is captured by a pirate named Adhoora (Ravi Kishan) to get the map from him. In comes Guddu (Ajay Devgn) to save Prithvi. Amidst the chaotic action, the map is accidentally burnt by Adhoora. Hence Prithvi is saved and he is on the run once again and is supposed to be hiding in a place called Chamboli. Guddu along with his girlfriend Aaliyah’s (Esha Gupta) children and his partner Johnny (Sanjay Mishra) leave for Chamboli. On the way they bump into Adi (Arshad Warsi), Adi’s wife Rosy (Sanjeeda Shaikh), Manav (Javed Jaffery), Lallan ( Riteish Deshmukh) and his wife Paro (Anjali Anand) who all happen to know of the treasure due a hilarious situation. The treasure hunt begins.
Ajay Devgn raises laughs with his antics. Arshad Warsi along with Javed Jaffery regale as always but this time surprisingly they get to be emotional too. Sanjay Mishra is wonderful. Riteish Deshmukh is in top form. Anjali Anand gets a meaty role and performs with aplomb. Ravi Kishan and Upendra Limaye do justice to their hilarious roles. Vijay Patkar as Jheenga, the right hand man of Adhoora, as usual is funny. Sanjeeda Shaikh and Esha Gupta (special appearance) are decent.
Surprisingly there is only one song in the movie- ‘saree’ which is quite foot-tapping. In the end credits there are two songs- ‘Chatni’ and ‘Qeher’, The film has the recreated music version of ‘Bella Ciao’. Pity the song ‘Paisa Lao’ is not there.
Dhamaal 4 is a good and clean family entertainer and is a fun watch. And yes please don’t miss the beginning. A surprise is in store for you.
