Watching Mirzapur The Movie on big screen is quite a spectacle. The web series was / is quite a rage and it is no surprise that the film has also been lapped by the audience. There were claps & seetis and the audience was breaking into a frenzy despite its 197 minutes duration. Director Gurmeet Singh keeps you hooked with a massy entertainer. He keeps the Mirzapur universe in mind and ensures that the web series’ continuity is intact. The screenplay by Puneet Krishna is fast moving and is full of action sequences with the dialogues being top-notch. The one-liners are bona fide hits! However, the film drops somewhat in the second half but it more or less makes up in the resounding climax. Also few of the actors are wasted unless there is a part 2 in the making.
Akhandanand Triapthi known also as Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) is the ‘Bahubali’ of Mirzapur who has no faith in his son Munna (Divyenndu). He relies heavily on Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal) and his younger brother Bablu Pandit (Jitendra Kumar). Kaleen Bhaiya is pressurised into getting funds for election campaign by JP Yadav ( Pramod Pathak) who also has a score to settle with Kaleen. Bablu gets a tip about a Jaisalmer based businessman Babbar Yadav (Ravi Kishan) who wants to sell a huge consignment of drugs. Kaleen wants to procure the drugs from Babbar who has an ulterior motive that of killing Kaleen Bhaiya.
Ali Fazal is fantastic and gives a massy performance and plays to the gallery. Pankaj Tripathi is brilliant as always. Divyenndu is first class and ensures that he gets the maximum claps and seetis from the audience. Replacing Vikant Massey (who was there in the web series), Jitendra gets into the character of Bablu with utmost ease. Ravi Kishan in one word - outstanding. Sonal Chauhan as Babban’s love interest Mumtaz looks stunning. Sushant Singh as Bhairav Singh Karamat who wants to extract revenge from Babban and Kulbhushan Kharbanda as Satyanand Tripathi, father of Kaleen are dependable in cameos. Rasika Duggal, Mohit Mallik, Pramod Pathak, Sheeba Chadha, Abhishek Banerjee and Shaji Choudhury (as Maqbool) are good in their respective roles and leaves a mark. Shweta Tripathi ( Golu) and Shriya Pilgaonkar ( Sweety) have nothing much to do. A surprise is in the form of Satendra Soni who plays Chandu Puncture.
Cinematography is excellent and is dealt with grandiose. Action is another highlight as just like in the web series, gory. Music is forgettable. The only song that registers is “Sanson ki mala”.
Mirzapur The Movie is a big screen entertainer with total paisa paisa dialogues and performances. The audience has strongly and positively reacted to the film.
