In a significant and emotional development, the
Board of Trustees of the Lata Mangeshkar Medical Foundation has resolved to
rename its upcoming hospital project at Nandoshi, near Pune, as the LataAsha
Mangeshkar Institute of Medical Sciences.
Following the passing of Asha Bhosale ji on Sunday,
April 12, the programme will now also include a Condolence Meet along with the
Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony, making the occasion both a moment of tribute
and a step towards the future.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri
Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Shri Eknath Shinde and
Smt. Sunetra Pawar, will grace the occasion as Chief Guests. The programme will
be presided over by Dr. Mohanji Bhagwat, Sarsanghchalak of the Rashtriya
Swayamsevak Sangh. Members of the Mangeshkar and Bhosale families will also be
present.
The invite-only gathering will be held on Thursday,
April 16, at 5:00 PM at the project site in Nandoshi on Sinhagad Road.
Speaking on the occasion, Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar said, “Lata Didi and Asha Tai were never just names for us… they were our very breath. This hospital carrying both their names feels right. It will be in both Lata Didi and Asha Tai’s names, and we will strive to make this one of the best hospitals in Asia. At a time like this, when it comes to fulfilling duty, it felt right to place duty over personal grief. Asha Bhosale ji was to be present for the inauguration, as we were creating a hospital in Lata Didi’s name, much like she had done in our late father’s name.”
He further shared details of the project, stating
that the 40-acre campus will not only cater to patients but will also include
care for small animals.
Dr. Dhananjay Kelkar, Medical Director, Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Research Center, elaborated, “We have acquired 40 acres of land for the LataAsha Mangeshkar Institute of Medical Sciences to house a group of institutes that will function together as one integrated ecosystem. The first phase will include 22.5 lakh square feet of construction, with a 1000-bed surgical super speciality hospital. It will be a sophisticated, state-of-the-art facility — one of the most modern speciality surgical hospitals in the country.”
Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosale remain among the
most iconic figures in Indian music. The institution in their joint name is
envisioned as a tribute that will carry forward their legacy through service,
compassion, and healing.
A musical homage will be held at 4:00 PM, featuring
Smt. Vibhavari Joshi (vocal), Shri Shantanu Gokhale (santoor), Shri Amar Oak
(flute), and Shri Pandurang Pawar (tabla) on the occasion.
