The Income Tax Department, West Bengal &
Sikkim, celebrated International Women's Day on 17th March 2026 at the
Multipurpose Hall, Aayakar Bhawan, Kolkata, in the presence of senior officers,
officials, and distinguished guests.
The programme was presided over by the Principal
Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, West Bengal & Sikkim, Smt Surabhi Varma
Garg, IRS. Senior officers of the department, including Smt. Esther Lal
Ruatkimi, IRS, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, along with other officers and
officials, attended the programme.
Addressing the gathering, the Principal Chief
Commissioner of Income Tax, Smt. Surabhi Verma Garg, IRS, shared her views on
the importance of women's empowerment and the growing role of women in public
service. She highlighted that women officers and officials are increasingly
contributing to leadership, administration, and policy implementation, thereby
strengthening institutions and playing a significant role in nation-building.
She emphasized the need to continue fostering an inclusive and supportive environment
that enables women to excel in their professional and personal lives.
On the occasion, the department also presented the
"Shakti Samman Awards" to women officials who have made notable
contributions to their office responsibilities. The awards recognize and
celebrate the dedication, commitment, and contributions of women officials,
reflecting the spirit of service and empowerment.
The programme was graced by actress Raima Sen, who
attended the event as the Guest of Honour. In her brief address, she
appreciated the initiative of the Income Tax Department in celebrating the
achievements of womenofficers and officials and congratulated the recipients of
the Shakti Samman Awards. Ms. Sen also acknowledged the inspiring leadership of
women officers in the Income Tax Department, particularly appreciating the
guidance of the Principal Chief Commissioner, Ms. Surabhi Verma Garg, whose dynamic
leadership continues to inspire many young officers and officials.
The event also featured a musical performance by
noted sitarist Vidushi Mita Nag, who presented an engaging recital accompanied
on the tabla by Roudraswa Rakshit. The performance added a cultural dimension
to the celebration and was appreciated by the audience.
The programme concluded with congratulations to all
the award recipients and a reaffirmation of the department's commitment to
promoting gender equality, empowerment, and opportunities for women within the
organization and beyond.
