This first-of-its-kind exhibition showcases hand-woven and hand-patterned textiles from Bengal, highlighting the region’s historical significance in the global textile trade. Spanning nearly 400 years—from the 17th century to the present—the exhibition features rare and previously unseen pieces, with a focus on the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Organized into nine sections, it explores materials and techniques, colonial-era documents and fabric swatches, lesser-known hand-weaving traditions, jamdani, chikankari, Indo-Portuguese embroideries, kantha, haji rumal, Baluchars, namavalis, Murshidabad silks, and luxury textiles commissioned for Bengal’s elite from centers like Kashmir and Varanasi.
