Showcasing the horrors of war

Cast: Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Carle Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Nelson Lee, Nick Offerman, Jefferson White

Rating: 3.5/5

Alex Garland’s ‘Civil War’ has gorgeous visuals especially when viewed in IMAX. The performances are great all around and so is the direction. This isn’t Garland’s best film but it’s still really good in terms of direction. Garland has a clear vision in his head for the film and that’s evident from the first shot itself.

Set in the near future, a group of war journalists attempt to survive while reporting the truth as the United States stands on the brink of civil war.

The performances are excellent all around with Kirsten Dunst being the best. The cinematography is visually pleasing. The film's theme is handled really well, and this is better than most of the anti-war films released in the past few years. The point Garland was trying to make wasn’t as “sharp” as it needed to be. The film would’ve been way better if his statement was sharp enough to pierce through the viewer’s skull. Civil War may not be Garland’s best but it’s still worth a watch. Civil War isn’t a bad film by any means, it’s just a polarising one.
