Narishakti, a one-stop breast cancer detection & treatment centre for all women by women doctors, has been set up at the Peerless Hospital in Kolkata.
Breast cancer
is the most common cancer among women globally and in India Peerless Hospital has
come up with this theme for more and more women to come forward to get tested
and diagnosed without feeling any shyness or shame.
One in four women
with cancer across the world and in India are diagnosed with breast cancer.
Every year nearly, 1,80,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in India and
around 90,000 women die of the disease each year.
From the oncologist, breast onco-surgeon, breast radiologist to mammography
technicians all are ladies as well as the nursing staff to ensure end-to-end privacy for women undergoing breast cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, and
post-treatment care.
“The overall incidence of cancer has increased by almost 80% among the “below 50” population across the world in the last 3 decades and Breast Cancer amounts for the highest numbers of this shift. Thus, the paradigm that cancer occurs in the elderly has changed to cancer happening in the middle & younger age groups. Breast cancer being easy to diagnose early & getting fully treated offers the best survival and cure rates among all cancers,” said Dr. Ramanan, director, SRIOS (Sunil Kanti Roy Institute of Oncology Services).
Dr. Madhuchanda Kar, Clinical director, Medical Oncology and Consultant Sr. Oncologist, Dr. Suma Chakrabarthi, Sr. Consultant Breast Radiologist and Dr. Pragati Singhal, Consultant Breast Surgery were part of the press meet who highlighted the importance of early detection, the latest treatment modalities and breast conservation with reconstructive surgery being done at Peerless Hospital.
Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, SRIOS with the ‘Women friendly Breast Cancer Dept.’ at Peerless Hospital, will conduct regular breast health awareness programmes to educate women in the community about breast cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of regular screenings.
