Having watched the original French film Nuit Blanche (2011) and the subsequent adaptations Sleepless (2015 starring Jamie Foxx) and the Kamal Haasan starrer Thoonga Vanam (also 2015) one was intrigued to see what director Ali Abbas Zafar creates with Bloody Daddy.

He mounts the film on a grand scale with grand action ( Parvez Shaikh), but somewhere down the line, he leaves a lot of questions unanswered, leaving the climax predictable and not quite impactful. There are a few twists but anyone who has watched the earlier versions will be fully aware of them. One of the highlights of the film is when Sumair (Shahid) creates a ruckus at a marriage celebration. The expressions of both Shahid and Ronit Roy are superb. Plus the cinematography is eye-catching.

Sumair Azad (a rocking Shahid Kapoor) is a narco officer who is based in Delhi. He along with his colleague Jaggi (an able Zeishan Quadri) busts a drug deal of ₹50 crores and steals the drugs. Sumair’s son Atharv (Sartaaj Kakkar) who is staying with him gets kidnapped by Sikander Chowdhary (a superb Ronit Bose Roy) whose drugs have been stolen by Sumair. In return for Atharv, Sikander demands that Sumair return the consignment. Sumair takes the drugs to Sikander’s hotel in Gurugram, The Emerald Atlantis, unaware that two anti-corruption officers Sameer Singh (a surprisingly different Rajeev Khandelwal) and Aditi Rawat (Diana Penty in a lesser screen time) are tracking him. Unfortunately. the drugs go missing.

It was good to see Sanjay Kapoor as Hameed Shaikh another drug lord. He impresses in a hugely supporting role and so does Vivaan Bhatena (Danny, Sikander’s brother) and Ankur Bhatia (Vicky).

The film should be lapped up by the audience as it is free to see on OTT. Plus the performances by Shahid and Ronit and Rajeev Khandelwal are definitely the pluses for this action-packed thriller.
