The nightingale of India passed away on February 6 last year. The entire country was plunged in grief
at the loss of
India’s foremost jewel. On the eve of her first death anniversary music director
and singer
Biswajit Mandal
launched his special and emotional tribute “Meri Lata Maa”, a song penned in
memory of the music legend at the Press Club on February 5. The music video launch was done in the presence of other music artists like veteran singer Haimanti Shukla, lead singer of Cactus Sidhu, and actress and singer Jeniva Roy. The musical tribute has been released under BR Music which was launched in June 2020 during the lockdown by Biswajit Mondal and Ranjit Choudhury. The company is also a platform for new and upcoming singers and musicians.
While paying tribute
to Lata, Haimanti Shukla recalled the times when she met the late singer and
how
much in awe she was
of her. “In order to be a good artist you have to be a good person and Latadidi
was
the perfect example
of that. I loved all her songs, especially her Bengali songs which she had sung
for
Hemanta Mukherjee. She
was, she is and shall be.”
“An artist never
dies and remains immortal through her art,” said Sidhu.
For Jeniva Lata was her idol and she would follow her style of singing. “I always sing her numbers at all my shows.”
All the singers sang
a few lines of their favourite Lata number.
The music video was
also screened on the occasion with Biswajit Mondal singing a few lines live as
well.
