Director Shashanka Ghosh has made this
rom-com in the same subtle way that English rom-coms used be made during the
90s. Plus the lead Riteish Deshmukh and Tamannaah Bhatia put in very relatable
and easy on the eye performances. You know what is going to happen in the end,
yet the viewers are left with a chuckle on their faces.
‘Kosty’ Kaustabh Chougule is an uptight and
prim and proper divorce lawyer having severe OCD with marriage problems of his
own with wife Runjhun (a lively Bidita Bag in a cameo). His office workspace is
shared by Nirali Vora (Tamannaah) who despite being a psychologist is also a
matchmaker (inherited from her mother Kiran played by an obese but delightful
Poonam Dhillon) and is also mending a broken heart. She tries to move out of
her personal loss with help from her friend Seema (the Youtuber Kusha Kapila). Kosty
and Nirali’s paths cross and sparks fly for the worse as they keep rubbing each
other the wrong way.
The film traces how they overcome their own
obsessive and mental blocks and find a way out together.
The lead actors breeze through their roles
with the supporting cast giving them ample support.
A highlight is a party to celebrate Kiran’s
60th birthday where all RD Burman’s songs are played with Tu tu hai
wahin (Yeh Vaada Raha) picturised on Poonam herself taking the cake. Nostalgic!
Not many people will understand this film,
but actually it takes us down memory lane of all the feel-good English
rom-coms of the 90s.
