Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has announced a weekend shutdown in all urban areas of the state. The Special Relief Commissioner cum Additional Chief Secretary, Pradeep Kumar Jena, announced that the weekend shutdown will be in place on Saturday and Sunday and this shutdown will be imposed in all urban areas.
Ten districts bordering Chhattisgarh already
have weekend shutdowns. The other remaining 20 districts will have weekend
shutdown from Friday night onwards, said Jena.
During the weekend, all activities will be
closed except medical establishments including hospitals, clinics, nursing
homes, medicine stores, movement of ambulance and all medical personnel,
district and municipal administration, emergency services like police and fire services,
telecom services; petrol pumps and other essential services.
Water supply, sanitation, and sewerage workers,
electricity supply and distribution and movement of goods and goods carriers will
remain in operation as they are under emergency services.
Meanwhile, looking at the improving COVID-19
situation in the state, the Tamil Nadu Government has announced both restrictions
and relaxations across the state. The existing lockdown which was to end on July
5, has been extended by a week till July 12.
