Singer Joy Goswami recently participated in a fundraising concert for DCI (Distressed Children and Infants International). DCI is a non-profit organization working to protect child rights and help families out of the poverty cycle through education, healthcare, and income generating opportunities.
Joy performed on invitation from Dr. Ehsan Hoque,
Founder & Executive Director and Dr. Khwaja Hossain, ND Chapter Lead. This
spectacular concert coordinated by Dr. Dilip Mistry and anchored by Dr. Rubella
Goswami was very well attended, and substantial funds were raised. Goswami also
helped the organisation for raising the funds for Covid and Amphan, the musician’s
relief funds, as well as other cultural and educational initiatives in Kolkata..
Joy fits an ideal definition of a ‘Probashi
Bengali’. Born and raised in New Delhi, where Joy’s grandparents migrated
during the pre-independence era, he now has been living in the US for over two
decades. Speaking with him and listening to the impeccable Bangla songs in his
deep and melodious voice, one can hardly believe that Joy has really, never
lived in Bengal.
Joy’s passion for the Bengali language, affection
for music and love for his extended family and beloved fans, compels him to visit
Kolkata often from the US. While in Kolkata, he regularly engages in recording
music albums, conducting live musical shows and performing on TV for his
audience.
During this pandemic, while the world was practically locked down, Joy and
Rubella made it their priority to use music for inspiring their audience and
helping organizations in need, raising funds through their novel musical
programs across the world. They hosted a series of interactive musical shows on
virtual platforms for their audiences, presenting more than 500 songs from
various genres of music, including Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, Shyama
Sangeet, Adhunik Bengali, Bengali films and Hindi.
