New Delhi: India's daily Covid cases went on to again hit a grim world record with 4,14,188 infections and 3,915 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. The active caseload is now 2,14,91,598.
The country has been
reporting over 3 lakh new Covid cases every day for the last two weeks. More
than 2.34 lakh people have died so far. Earlier this week, India's overall
cases since breached the two crore-mark.
The top five states that have registered maximum
cases are Maharashtra (62,194), Karnataka (49,058), Kerala (42,464), Uttar
Pradesh (26,622) and Tamil Nadu (24,898).
Meanwhile, top health experts and Opposition leaders have called for a nationwide lockdown, saying it might be the only option left for the country to break the chain of virus transmission.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, Niti Aayog member VK Paul said that the option of a nationwide lockdown is “being discussed”.
