Kolkata: Following the day-long political drama on Monday, TMC ministers Subrata Mukherjee and Firhad Hakim were rushed to the SSKM Hospital after they complained of breathlessness. TMC MLA Madan Mitra and former mayor of Kolkata and now BJP leader Sovon Chatterjee too had to be rushed to the same hospital early on Tuesday morning. All four had been arrested by the CBI for their involvement in the Narada sting operation case.
The four leaders had been taken to Presidency Jail on Monday night after
the Calcutta High Court’s injunction on their bail pleas. All four are to be
kept in Presidency Jail till Wednesday, the day of the next hearing.
The Calcutta High
Court on Monday night remanded Firhad Hakim, Subrata Mukherjee, Madan Mitra and
Sovan Chatterjee in jail custody till May 19, putting an injunction on Bankshall
Court’s bail order. The injunction on the bail order was ordered by Calcutta
High Court, after the Chief Justice's bench heard the CBI virtually from
8.15 to 10.15 pm on Monday night. The CBI moved Calcutta
High Court following the lower court's order in the evening which approved bail
to the four leaders.
The CBI has moved Calcutta High Court under Section 407 of the CrPc pleading that the matter be transferred out of the current special CBI court in Kolkata. The central agency is keen to shift the Narada case outside West Bengal for fair interrogation and to avoid the law and order situation it faced after violent protests by Trinamool Congress workers in front of Nizam Palace.
