Kolkata: Passengers coming to Kolkata Airport from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and Telangana must carry RT PCR negative test report conducted within 72 hours before departure. This is the important announcement which the Kolkata airport authority has tweeted for all passengers in view of the surge in Covid cases across the country.

The COVID situation in Bengal is a major cause of concern with political parties organizing roadshows, rallies and moving about without masks, violating all COVID norms. On Wednesday, Jalpaiguri TMC candidate could not attend Mamata Banerjee's public rally as he tested positive.

Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court in Tuesday asked Chief Electoral Officer Ariz Aftab and district magistrates to pull up their socks and enforce Election Commission’s COVID norms.

“We are dealing with an extraordinary situation and this calls for extraordinary measures,” the HC said, adding that anyone who is found flouting Covid norms, even during poll campaigning, “must be taken to task immediately,” the High Court said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday attacked  the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, brigade of BJP central ministers and leaders and all outsiders coming to Bengal for poll campaigns and spreading the pandemic.

“The outsiders, BJP leaders have brought COVID to Bengal. Yogi Adityanath has also tested positive for COVID. When I told the PM to vaccinate all, he did not listen to me,” Mamata blamed.

Single day surge in Bengal on Wednesday was 5892. The discharge rate in Bengal is satisfactory, around 93 per cent and total new deaths were 24.
