After battling the Indian Censors for three long years, the Human Rights Activist Jaswant Singh Khalra biopic earlier titled Punjab '95, finally settled for a rather cold muted OTT release on Zee5 with a new name Satluj.
Diljit Dosanjh plays Jaswant Singh, a Bank manager, who fights back against the system atrocities during the height of Punjab insurgency. Fresh from the success of Main Vaapas Aaunga (2026), Diljit expectedly delivers a fantastic performance. In fact, the entire cast is first rate. Arjun Rampal, as CBI officer Samudra Singh cum narrator, registers the right punch. Kanwaljeet Singh's turn as the top cop Bitta reminds us of his character in Gulzar's Maachis (1996), which incidentally dealt with the same Punjab issue. Suvinder Vicky, as the ruthless SSP Suggi, is excellent. Note his performance as he barges in to his junior's home, eats a meal there and then does something unimaginably cold-blooded. Terrific scene indeed!!
The first and last fifteen minutes of the film are truly it's highlight. A sinister start... then and a gut-wrenching end. Way to go!!
Honey Trehan's direction is taut, daunting and precise. Satluj tugs your heartstrings, hits you hard at the right places and leaves you thoroughly impacted by the end of it. This is indeed, seriously good cinema!!
