On June 26, the hall at Paschim Banga Rajya Sangeet Academy reverberated with appreciative claps as one RD Burman gem after another was performed on stage for "Panchamev Jayate" on the occasion of the legendary music director's 87th birth anniversary on June 27.
The event started with Suprio Ghosh, a specially abled young man who set the ball rolling for the musical evening with "Akash kano dake" followed by promising young dancer Trisha Mondal performing on "Piya Bawari"and 'Haan jab tak hai jaan".
A host of talented singers from Payal to Sunita. Jhumur to Ramesh, Anindita to Haque, Pinaki to Rabindra, Barsha to Tulsi and Babusona regaled the audience with Hindi film songs like "Tumse mile zindagi ko", "Sagar kinare", "Dilbar mere", "Jis gali mein tera ghar", "Kehna hai", "O majhi re", "Phir wahi raat hai", "Samundar main nahake", "Ek roz main tadapkar", "Mausam mastana", "Aati rahengi baharein", "Rimjhim rimjhim", "Yeh ladka hai Allah", "Yaadon ki baarat", "Roz roz aankhon tale" to Bengali numbers like "Mone pore Ruby Ray", "Tomate aamate dekha", "Kotha hoechhilo", "Jete jete pothe holo deri" left the audience gasping for more over the four-hour musical soiree.
The highlight was the unveiling of the poster featuring all the artists who performed at the event and the cake cutting ceremony in honour of Panchamda's birthday.
A brainchild of Musical Minds and Dharitri, this was the.8th edition of the musical evening. The event was ably compered byTinku Mondal and Pradip Dey.
