If you have a good script and you are sure of
what you want to shoot, you don't need a huge star cast or even 10 minutes
to get your message across to the audience. Nine minutes is more than enough
and that too with just two actors.
Workplace sexual harassment is a social
evil which employees, especially women have had to face since decades. "After
Hours" deftly showcases how the vulnerable victim, the hunted, becomes the
hunter even as the so-called all-powerful predator becomes the hunted.
Jay Singh (Tathagata) calls Ananya (Komal) home
late in the evening as it would help her in her promotion. Ananya seemingly
complies but it is gradually revealed that she has come with an agenda of her
own, that is to expose Jay for the loathsome sexual predator he is who had
earlier preyed on her sister as well, leaving her devastated and broken. Does
she get justice for her sister.. watch "After Hours" to know.
Shot in black and white, with the interplay of
shadows and lingering shots on the actors and objects in the apartment (brilliant cinematography by Aaron Targain),
"After Hours" gives the feel of a noir film. Both the actors have a
grip on their characters and emote effectively, leaving a distinct impact on
the audience. Kudos to director Sanjay Mishra (his 3rd short film)
for being able to get the best out of Dey and Chowdhury and kudos to Pratik
Majumdar for the taut, no-nonsense script.
