The premiere of "Masklore of India” was held
at Rotary Sadan on February 25. This documentary film takes you on a beautiful
journey throughout India which tells you the stories of our rich cultural
heritage related with the long lost and barely surviving art of the traditional
masks and the history related to it.
Indian traditional masks are a living heritage. They are not meant for being caged in glass cases or being hung on silent walls. They are the memories of our predecessors; they are the pillars of faith for many. They remind us that sometimes; to reveal the deepest truth, one must first wear a mask. Traditional masks of India are not mere objects of craft – they are faces borrowed from eternity.
The masks which hang silently through the year, become epic characters during festivals, depicting about India's ancient culture and the rich past. Through the red soil of Bengal and Odisha, floating through the river Island of Assam, climbing up to the mountains of Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Uttarakhand, and taking you around the temples of Kerala, “Masklore of India” tells you about the stories from ancient epics where Gods descend and Demons roar. Where people celebrate while the myths walk among them.
