On 19th September, director Babai Sen’s much-awaited film “Mihira” was
released across India. Since its release, the film has been running
successfully in multiple single screens across the country, receiving highly
positive audience feedback.
The cast of Mihira features some remarkable names—Rahul Roy, the iconic
star of the 1990 Bollywood classic “Aashiqui”, along with popular Bengali
actors Kharaj Mukherjee, Chitrali Das, Arshi Sen, and the promising new face
from Cooch Behar’s royal lineage, Sajal Barman.
Notably, Mihira marks the debut Bengali feature film of Sajal Barman.
With this film, he makes his grand entry into cinema. Even more significantly,
under the mentorship of Babai Sen, he is now preparing to step into Bollywood
for the very first time, joining hands with major box-office productions. This
marks an important turning point not only for his career but also for the
cultural bridge between Bengal and mainstream Indian cinema.
Renowned filmmaker Babai Sen is already known for his unique cinematic
voice, particularly for creating women-centric narratives and emotionally
layered love stories. With Mihira, he once again reaffirms his position as one
of the most promising storytellers of contemporary Bengali cinema.
The excitement doesn’t end here—Babai Sen is set to bring two more
full-length feature films: “Sabitri” and “Shiuli.” Among these, “Shiuli”
promises to be a groundbreaking cinematic experiment, blending South Indian and
Bengali cultural elements in a way never attempted before in the industry. The
film is scheduled for release in 500 theatres across South India and in 100
theatres across West Bengal in both Bengali and Hindi languages.
This marks a milestone for Bengali cinema, as such a large-scale
cultural crossover is unprecedented in the industry.
With four acclaimed films already to his credit, Babai Sen is gearing up
for the shooting of his fifth feature film this November. The film will explore
a deeply emotional chapter centering on the relationship between a father and
daughter.
Featuring celebrated talents from both Tollywood and Bollywood, the
project is already drawing international attention and is being hailed as one
of the most awaited ventures of Indian cinema.
