Actor, Producer and talent coordinator Palash Dutta recently visited the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, and while his experience there was professionally fulfilling, the most cherished moment for him was meeting the legendary actress Sharmila Tagore. Sharing more about the encounter, Palash says, “My most wonderful and nostalgic moment, and the best part of the entire 8 days of my trip to the Cannes Film Festival, was meeting my childhood dream/heartthrob, Sharmila Tagore Ma'am! I can't explain in words what and how I felt meeting her in person — the warmth, graciousness, and the charisma she exudes.

"A small incident I would like to share — during the film, midway, she was feeling giddy and low on sugar. I’m always equipped and carry some eatables in my bag, so it was my good fortune that I had cookies and dates, which I could offer to her. She said she felt much better. It felt like she was a goddess, and I got 5 minutes of time to serve her.”

He adds, “I spoke to her in Bengali and told her how everyone told my mother during her younger days that she resembled Sharmila Tagore, and I also showed her my mother's picture. These few minutes of memory will be forever ingrained in my system. As Bengalis, we are all great admirers of her craft, and watching Satyajit Ray's Aranyer Din Ratri, which was screened in the Classics section of the Cannes Film Festival, was a very special moment for me.”

Palash was at Cannes to release his upcoming short film Singh & Sinha directed and produced by Mohan Das on the Marché du Film Cannes website, and to showcase the poster of another short film Dance of Joy... Mann Ki Iccha which was his directorial debut, at the Bharat Pavilion.

He says, “I was blessed to have received support and appreciation for my venture from legends and stalwarts like Shekhar Kapur Sir, Boman Irani Sir, Anupam Kher Sir, Chhaya Kadam, Karan Tacker, Taaha Shah, et al. I am thankful and grateful beyond words!”
