Mumbai :Dedicated to enriching the lives of India’s
60+ community, is proud to host a special book reading session with acclaimed
author and celebrity journalist Bhawana Somaaya in Mumbai. *The event will
feature the unveiling of her latest book, "Farewell Karachi: A Partition
Memoir", by acclaimed actor and director Nandita Das. It will take place
on 22nd June at 4:30 PM at Mcubed Library, D'monte Park Road, Bandra West, and
will be moderated by well-known media personality Tarana Raja.*
The session will spotlight Somaaya’s latest work,
"Farewell Karachi: A Partition Memoir" - a deeply personal narrative
that traces the journey of a Gujarati family displaced during the 1947
Partition. The book spans five generations, capturing the emotional and
physical dislocation of a family forced to restart their lives across Karachi,
Kutch, and Bombay.
Reflecting on the origins of the book, Bhawana
Somaaya shared,
“This memoir was born out of a question that caught
me off guard - about my greatest fear. Writing Farewell Karachi became a way to
make sense of that fear, to confront the trauma and silence passed down
generations. I hope this book resonates with anyone who’s ever felt uprooted or
yearned to trace the story behind their family’s beginnings.”
Meenakshi Menon, Founder, GenS Life, said, “At GenS
Life, we believe in creating spaces for shared stories, healing, and
intergenerational dialogue. ‘Farewell Karachi’ is not just a memoir - it’s a
reminder of resilience, roots, and the power of community. We are honoured to
host Bhawana Somaaya and look forward to the meaningful conversations this book
will spark among our members and guests.”
The event is open to all, with a special invitation
to seniors. 60+ . whose memories take them to times long gone. We invite GenS
Life members, readers, history enthusiasts, and all those interested in stories
of resilience, identity, and belonging. A Q&A session and book signing will
