Maharaja Cossimbazar Polytechnic
Institute, a Higher Secondary School located in Bagbazar, inaugurated a newly
established Computer Lab today, thanks to the initiative and intervention of
Dr. Shashi Panja, minister for Industries, Women & Child Development,
Government of West Bengal. The lab has been set up with the generous support of
Merlin Group and South City Projects as part of their Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) efforts.
The inauguration ceremony was
graced by Dr. Shashi Panja, who formally unveiled the lab in the presence of
Shri Sushil Mohta, Chairman of Merlin Group and Director of South City
Projects, Shri Kartick Manna, Chairman, SSM, Kolkata, and Mrs. Kumkum Dutta Mukherjee,
Headmistress of Maharaja Cossimbazar Polytechnic Institute. The lab is equipped
with five computers and is expected to significantly enhance digital learning
and computer literacy among the students.
Founded in 1916 by Maharaja
Manindra Chandra Nandi in collaboration with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation,
the institute initially offered polytechnic courses until 1960. It was later
transformed into a Higher Secondary School offering Arts, Science, and Commerce
streams. Today, the school educates over 300 students, most of whom come from
economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The school also operates a hostel under
the patronage of SSM, Kolkata offering free Education and Accommodation to
underprivileged students.
Addressing the students, Dr.
Shashi Panja said, “While addressing the students, teachers, and dignitaries,
Dr. Shashi Panja said, “We are grateful to the Merlin Group and South City
Projects for stepping forward to support us. As a public representative, I
extend my heartfelt congratulations to both groups on behalf of the M.C.P.
Institute and the local community. Their support through proper utilization of
CSR funds sets an example of meaningful corporate contribution toward
grassroots development.
This institution, with a rich
legacy of nearly 100 years, is making dedicated efforts—alongside government
support—to bring modern, technology-driven education to every section of
society. I always strive to bring the best for the least, and I will continue
to stand by the community in every possible way.
I have already used my MLA fund
to construct this classroom, and I’ve also arranged for the urgent repair of
the school’s roof. The work will begin shortly. As someone committed to the
service of society, it is my duty and privilege to support such noble
initiatives.”
“We are honoured to contribute to the development
of this historic institution by setting up a computer lab that will provide
students with access to digital education. At Merlin Group, we believe in
creating meaningful impact in the communities we serve. This initiative
reflects our deep commitment to education and social upliftment,” said Sushil
Mohta, Chairman, Merlin Group and Director, South City Projects.
