People witnessed the "different" spring festival and Varsha Baran celebration in the vicinity of Santiniketan by loving nature.

On the day of Vasant Purnima, the entire area danced to the tune of Rabindranath's songs and dances at Muluke Swadhan campus in Bolpur. The participants ranged from rural adivasis to those accustomed to the Kolkata civic life.

Courtesy, Santiniketan Medical College and Hospital and Positive Barta in collaboration with Swadhin Trust, West Bengal Media Forum, All Bengal Private Nursing Homes and Hospitals Owners Association celebrated their anniversary through Baha Utsav (Flower Festival) and Vasant Baran.

According to tribal tradition, they wear this Baha by placing the shal flower in a new shal leaf and offering it to their deity. They acknowledge their debt to nature. It is only after this Baha Parva that the tribal society accepts nature's new flowers, fruits, and leaves into their lives.

This festival is not only about colours and beauty; It is a symbol of the tribals' close connection with nature. By celebrating the Baha festival, they show their gratitude to nature as well as respect the traditions and religious ideals of the tribal society. One of the objectives of the Baha Festival is to create awareness about the tribal community not to deviate from their culture and religious beliefs.

Renowned musician Rathin Kisku said, "We celebrate this Baha Parva with new shal flowers and shal leaves and water. Only after this festival we accept nature's new flowers, fruits and leaves in our lives. In this festival we acknowledge our debt to nature. We all rejoice together today to celebrate it universally."

Many dignitaries including religious representatives of tribal communities were felicitated on the occasion of Baha Utsav. Former Health and Education Director of the state Professor Dr. Sushant Banerjee, Dean of Shantiniketan Medical College and Hospital Dr. Ayan Goswami, Nirjan Nandi of West Bengal Media Forum, Shankar Mandal along with eminent educationist Kanan Hansda and many others were present in the event.

President of Santiniketan Medical College and Hospital Malay Peet said, "We want to bring the message of social development by combining all religions through this Baha festival of the tribals. Also, we want to free people from the fog that has been created around the Santiniketan spring festival and share the flavor of the festival."

Various cultural programmes were staged throughout the day to mark the Barshwaran festival through Baha Utsav (Flower Festival) and Vasant Baran.
