2024 ended with a blast from the past. One of Indian cinema’s most influential playback singers, Mohd Rafi, was celebrated with great elan.

Take 5 Communications, Kolkata’s creative organization headed by filmmaker Tathagata Bhattacherjee paid a musical tribute to Mohd. Rafi in his birth centenary year at the Phoenix Hall of the prestigious Saturday Club Kolkata on December 28, 2024. The archival event titled ‘Dard–e–Dil’ presented some timeless melodies of Mohd. Rafi which took the full house audience on a nostalgic trip to the bygone golden era of Hindi film Music.

Twenty all-time hit songs were performed live on stage which included both solo and duets. Renditions by Sd. Hashmat, Taj Ahmed, Sudeshna Kundu, Raja Hossain, Md. Firoz and Sudeshna Chakraborty took the audience on a mesmerizing journey of Mohd. Rafi’s immortal classics from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

‘Khoya Khoya Chaand’, ‘Dil Ka Bhanwar Kare Pukar’, ‘Aa Ja Aa Ja Main Hoon Pyar Tera’, ‘Yeh Chaand Sa Roshan Chehra’, ‘Deewana Hua Baadal’, ‘Chaand Mera Dil’ ‘Kya Hua Tera Vaada’ and ‘Dard –e-Dil’ were some of the evergreen hits that were performed much to the delight of those who were there to cheer for the Chartbusters.

Along with the live music, the event had significant talks by filmmakers, scholars, educationists, creative professionals, and corporate personalities who were among the niche audience.

Pranam Roy, Kolkata’s popular emcee, anchored the show introducing each song with interesting trivia which created the perfect retro ambience for the occasion. The event management was by Learning System.

Take 5 Communications had, in the past, done Centenary Celebration Events for Mukesh, Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor, and now with Mohd. Rafi the organization intends to bring more such meaningful presentations in the times to come.
