The plot and AK save Savi(tri)

Cast: Special thanks to Anil Kapoor, Divya Khossla, Harshvardhan Rane

Rating: 2.5*

Director Abhinay Deo (Blackmail, Delhi Belly) remakes the French film Pour Elle (2008) which was also remade in Hollywood as The Next Three Days (2010) with gender reversal, as Savi-The Bloody Wife starring Divya Khossla in the titular role. T-Series and Mukesh Bhatt could have easily settled in for a better female lead, but maybe they felt that Mrs Bhushan Kumar should also showcase her talent. Her performance especially the emotional sequences (which are in plenty) needs a lot to be desired. The film is actually salvaged by Anil Kapoor who is entertaining to watch despite having limited screen time. His entry is quite late in the film. Deo keeps the (black) humour quotient up and the twist in the end makes up for this predictable fare.

The Sachdevs are living peacefully in Liverpool. Their lives are shattered when Nakul Sachdev (Harshvardhan Rane) who works in a construction company is accused of murdering his boss Stefanie Fowler who had humiliated him in front of the office staff. Despite saying that he is innocent, he is convicted and awarded a life sentence as all pieces of evidence point towards him. It is here that Nakul’s wife Savitri (Khossla), a homemaker takes matters into her hands. She decides to free her husband at any cost because a convict Razzak in jail was out to kill Nakul since the latter didn’t hide the drugs given to him by the former. Despite being in solitary confinement, Razzak is coming out in three days. Savi had only three days to free her husband. It is here she gets her hands on a prison break book written by a reclusive Joydeep Paul (Anil Kapoor) who has escaped from prison seven times!

One wishes that the director could have concentrated a bit more on Harshvardhan Rane. Here is a talent ready to be tapped but unfortunately the entire focus is on Divya.

It is good to see Raageshwari Loomba Swarup (remember Aankhen?) in a brief role as Simrit, Savi's friend who helps her. MK Raina as Nakul’s father is quite effective again in a brief role. Himanshi Choudhry as DI Ayesha Hassan is quite good.

The second half of the film is quite pacy which keeps the interest level high. The director has taken too many cinematic liberties which actually spoils the film and makes it convenient-based, especially in the easy manner in which Savi manages to get Nakul out. The songs are also a big downer.

The plot and Anil’s performance save SAVI.
