Rating: 3*

Premendu Bikash Chaki’s rom-com Alaap is a breezy though poignant take on a comedy of errors delving into the complexities of relationships in today’s world.

Pablo Majumder aka PM (Abir) and Aditi Mitra aka AM (Mimi) are IT professionals working in different IT firms. Both need accommodation close to their place of work in Sector V. By a twist of fate they end up being flatmates but fail to meet each other as AM does day shifts and PM is on night shifts. Despite not meeting in person AM and PM strike up a relationship via post-it notes over household chores and food. When Pablo discovers that AM is a girl he starts falling for her. Before he can do anything about it Aditi leaves for her new job in Delhi. Meanwhile, Pablo’s overbearing mother fixes his marriage with his childhood friend Swatilekha (Swastika), but his heart still yearns to meet Aditi at least once in person. Do they meet or does destiny have other plans for them?

Abir is sweet and lovable as the guy next door looking perpetually sleepy and blinking his eyes tiredly. Mimi impresses as the streetsmart Aditi. The duo share great chemistry despite their limited personal interactions. Rohit Gupta, as the greedy but affable flat caretaker Sukhlal, takes care of the comedy quotient. The others in the star cast including AM and PM’s colleagues, AM’s over-anxious mother, or his well-meaning neighbour, are characters you come across in real life. Anupam Roy’s compositions add to the romance.
