An Ankush actioner

Cast: Ankush Hazra, Oindrilla Sen, Kaushik Ganguly, Shoaib Kabeer, Rishi Kaushik

Rating: 2.5*

Mirza is an out-an-out Ankush vehicle. Not only does he play the title role he produces the film also. The director duo Sumeet-Saahil uses a lot of slo-mo effects in this actioner especially when it involves Ankush. The film is punched with high-octane action but with little logic. The director duo has laced the film with twists and turns especially in the last hour and the climax will remind you of the Kamalahasan starter Vikram. A kohl-eyed Ankush plays to the gallery but is let down with a weak voice although he shines in the comedy sequences. The surprise of the film is Oindrilla Sen who despite having a slightly dark character packs a punch in the action scenes.

Kolkata is under the influence of a smuggled drug called Chill Pill. Senior police officer - the Ghulam- Kaustav Sen (a decent Rishi Kaushik) is assigned to find out about the culprits who are involved. He zeroes in the father duo team of the Ikka-Sultan (a weak biriyani-eating Kaushik Ganguly) and the Badshah-Azhar (a fair Shoaib Kabeer). But the confusion arises when the Joker- Mirza (Ankush) comes into the picture and joins the gang. No one knows about Mirza’s game and which side is he playing for. In this pack of cards, there is the Rani- Muskan (Oindrilla Sen) love interest of Mirza but she is not what she seems.

The film goes full speed hence leaving little room for logic thus leaving a lot of unanswered questions in the narrative. But due to the length (165 minutes) the film becomes predictable despite the twists and turns. The arrival of Tiger Bhai in the end paves the way for Part 2- Tiger.

Oindrilla looks beautiful and shines effectively as Muskan. Shantilal Mukherjee as the kind inspector Murshid Sheikh who educates little Mirza is excellent and Sankar Debnath as Malik the mole in the police department leaves a mark. All the kids deserve a special mention- they are wonderful. A word about Jisshu, he looks so much like the south actor Vinay Rai, smart & dashing.

The film has plenty of seeti-maar moments and good action sequences to keep Ankush fans happy with full indications of a sequel.
