Entertaining robo-com

Rating: 3*

Having Shahid Kapoor in a film solves half of your problems. Not only does he ease into his characters but also shines above them. It’s a similar case here too - he looks dashing, dances like a dream, and also lifts his character of Aryan. He is excellent in the emotional scenes and nails his comedy quotient too. The director duo of Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah has also got the best out of Kriti Sanon who looks beautiful and also gets into a difficult character of a robot with utmost ease. She is brilliant towards the climax. The duo’s chemistry is sizzling as well.

The director duo has been credited with the unusual story too and that is where they falter in the end despite breezing through the first half. The climax is somewhat of a letdown, but still, they manage to keep us smiling. The police station scene featuring Inspector Gupta (Rajan Kavatra) and constable Gujjar (Manish Kumar) along with Sifra (Kriti Sanon) leaves you in splits and one cannot stop falling off one's seat in laughter in that particular scene. Hilarious!

Aryan {Shahid Kapoor} is a brilliant robotics engineer working for E-Robotics and is based out of Mumbai. His family in Delhi are hellbent on getting Aryan hitched. His maternal aunt Urmila (a super Dimple Kapadia) who heads E-Robotics in the USA calls Aryan for a project. However, she leaves for some urgent work in Belgium but not before telling Aryan that he will be looked after by her personal assistant Sifra (Kriti Sanon). As soon as Aryan and Sifra meet sparks fly between them. And when Urmila returns from Belgium and tells Aryan that Sifra is actually a robot, Aryan is crestfallen and leaves for Mumbai. But he cannot forget Sifra.

Dharmendra (credited as Dharmendra Singh Deol for the first time ever in his career) is adorable in a limited screen time. Ashish Kumar as Aryan's friend and colleague Monty lends credible support. Rajesh Kumar (as Aryan's Mama) raises laughter. Rakesh Bedi and Anubha Fatehpuri as Aryan’s parents and Grusha Kapoor as Aryan's Babli Bua are good in whatever screen time they get. Sachin-Jigar's music is catchy and raises the bar of the film.

Excellent performances by the lead pair make this rom-com very watchable.
