Umesh Shukla’s
latest venture in the comedy genre is an unusual blend of loud and subtle
humour. He is mainly known for his 2012 hit OMG: Oh My God, which was a
commendable effort. Shukla’s latest revolves
around a family of misfits trying to hide some secrets from an NRI suitor and
his family as they want their daughter to get married to the rich guy resulting
in a series of comical twists and turns.
A playful and charming
film Aankh Micholi plays around with the idea for almost two and a half hours,
but it never seems boring or overdone; it balances the comedy and drama almost
perfectly. It is both slapstick and subtle at the same time; it throws at you
every joke writer Jitendra Parmar can possibly conceive and it rarely
stops even to catch a breath. It has over-the-top situations along with humour you
find in daily life.
The performances are what elevate this film starting from Paresh Rawal Sharman Joshi, Abhishek
Banerjee, Divya Dutta, and most importantly, the person who steals the show,
Vijay Raaz, who is simply hilarious. Mrunal Thakur and Abhimanyu Dasani have
zero chemistry but give decent performances. Darshan Jariwala and Grusha Kapoor
ably support the cast.
A fun film to watch
with your family on a lazy Sunday.
