Intolerable cruelty

Cast: Bonnie Aarons, Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, Storm Reid, Anna Popplewell

Rating: 1/5

A film so deeply grounded in the Conjuring Universe, The Nun II forgets that it has to be a good film first; a film so desperately in need of validation that it forgets to pack in the scares. The Nun II is a bunch of badly directed jump-scares put together like beads on a string, that too as loose as possible. There’s no passion nor will behind this film. It feels as if it was made just because it had to be made - for money, of course

Four years after the events at the Abbey of St. Carta, Sister Irene returns once again and comes face to face with the demonic force Valak, the Nun.

The film as a whole feels very loose and unmotivated. The end product, while some people will find it scary, isn’t scary or even remotely unsettling. Sure the atmosphere is pretty well done but it’s certainly not worth wasting an hour and fifty minutes of your precious time.

Director Michael Chaves doesn’t know when to cut and when not to. The screenplay, which took three people to write is equally as bad. The cinematography, production design, and fine performances are the only redeeming features.
