When will they ever make a good Stephen King adaptation?

Cast: Sophie Thatcher, Vivien Lyra Blair, Chris Messina, David Dastmalchian, Marin Ireland

Rating: 1/5

Based on the short story of the same name by Stephen King, The Boogeyman fails as a horror film, unable to pack in the requisite scares and the punch.

There have been good film adaptations of King's works like The Shining (though Kubrick changed the entire story), Misery, It (not Chapter 2), and The Mist - but this falls into the category of the bad ones based on King's works like The Dark Tower, Mr. Harrigan's Phone and In The Tall Grass. Not only is the entire story changed, but even who the Boogeyman was tormenting is different.

The Sawyer family consisting of Will, a therapist, and his two daughters high school student Sadie and her younger sister Sawyer have still not gotten over the death of their mother in an accident. One day a seemingly desperate patient unexpectedly comes to their house seeking help and leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that feasts on the suffering of its victims.

Director Rob Savage forgets that he is making a horror film and thought that he could add whatever he wanted to. The scares aren't scary or even thrilling, the high school scenes are miserable, and the screenplay is trashy with average performances.

The Boogeyman is a film that shouldn't have seen the light of day.
