Kolkata’s landmark hotel, Taj Bengal, Kolkata recently announced that it is 100% green. In its drive to minimise its environmental impact, the hotel is now using only renewable energy.
Speaking on the occasion, K.
Mohanchandran, Senior Vice President Operations, East & North East, IHCL,
said, “Taking forward the vision of IHCL’s ESG+ framework of Paathya, we
are proud to share that Taj Bengal, Kolkata has set a benchmark of being 100%
powered by renewable energy. This achievement advances our transition to a more
sustainable and low-carbon future reducing the CO2 emission by 8000 metric
tonnes annually.”
Taj Bengal, Kolkata in its
endeavour to minimize its impact on the environment is accelerating its efforts
towards water conservation and waste reduction by efficiently treating and
using water, reducing waste generation, and promoting recycling and reuse.
Towards its commitment to phasing out single-use plastic, the hotel introduced
a bottling plant in February 2022. Other sustainable measures include EV
charging stations, low-flow aerators for taps and showers, using treated water for horticulture and flushing, using LED light, energy-efficient equipment and time control lighting systems, and an
in-house organic waste composter.
