Poila Baisakh eve was a musical evening with a difference for all those who braved the heat and turned up at the  Ashutosh Birth Centenary Auditorium, Indian Museum. In store for music lovers was a one-of-its-kind musical experience, “Noboborshe Ponchobyanjon”: A Musical Journey With Pancham Da on April 14.

The unique concept by Niche Entertainment had singers and dancers enthralling the audience with songs and dance performances set against the backdrop of the actual film song. The presentation was like a moving film on stage and did full justice to the magical phenomenon that RD Burman was and still is. Tracing his life over the years one got to hear evergreen gems like Jaago sone walon, Mere naina sawan bhado, Yeh jo mohabbat hai, Kora kagaz tha yeh man mera, O gaseena zulfon wali, Aaja aaja main hun pyar tera, Duniya main logo ko, Beeti na bityai raina,  Dum maro dum, Piya tu ab toh aaja, Kuch toh log kahenge to Raina beeti jaaye, Piya bawaree, Humein tumse pyar kitna, Pyar tumhain kis mod pe, Mera kuch samaan, Tere bina zindagi se koi, Jai jai shiv shankar, Jaane do na, Kuch na kaho, Tujhse naazar nahin, Oh mere dil ke chain, Mone pore Ruby Rai rounding up with Yamma yamma.

The presenter Milind Oak kept up a flowing and very interesting narrative in between the presentations on the RD’s life and musical journey

The programme was organised by EEMP (Environmental Education Media Project) in association with CalCallingTV and Cashless Bazar. Niche Entertainment is  renowned for its thematic music performances. This was was Team CalCalling’s way of celebrating its 12th anniversary.

As part of EEMP’s commitment to prioritizing deep decarbonization and rapid fossil fuel shutdowns, complemented by nature-based solutions, a substantial part of the revenue generated from the event will go to plantation initiatives at New Town, Kolkata, Rotary Garden, New Town, and the Sunderbans.
