Kolkata: A unique street carnival ‘Paanch Phoron’ was inaugurated at Citizens’ Park, Cornfield Road on February 17. Announced by Sudarshana Mukherjee, councillor, Ward 68, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, it features fashion, lifestyle, food, home-décor, art carnival with interactive workshops for senior citizens, women and the differently abled. Present on the occasion were Debojyoti Mishra, Music Director, Swapan Basu, Folk Singer, Siddhartha Chatterjee, Actor & Financial Analyst and Dr Arindam Basu among others.
As many as 29 stalls have been set up displaying products made by the tiger
widows of Sundarbans and their families and various self-help groups like handicrafts,
curios, ornaments, sarees and clothes, honey from the Sundarbans, famous sweets
from Nadia apart from branded food stalls.
Mental wellness workshops for senior citizens, workshops for parents of
differently abled children and cookery workshops will be conducted during the three-day
carnival. There will be live music and drama performances also.
“This is not just a fair but an event for the welfare of everyone. It
has always been our endeavour to include the entire community in all our
initiatives, especially in this month of love. We have tried to include the
concept of welfare in this fair. Our inclusive approach to community in basic
humanitarian values are elementary to an inclusive growth of society,” said Sudarshana Mukherjee.
‘Paanch Phoron’ is being held at Citizens’ Park, Cornfield Road from February 17 to 19.
