Technically bad but not boring

Cast: Jason Statham, Aubrey Plaza, Hugh Grant, Josh Hartnett, Bugzy Malone, Cary Elwes, Eddie Marsan and Max Beesley

Rating: 3/5

Guy Ritchie’s latest film is uneven in its comedy, direction, and screenplay. For the past few years (since Aladdin), he has been going from bad to worse (look no further than Wrath of Man), whereas he once was as good as Tarantino. Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (a horrible and forgettable title for a film) feels like a total rip-off of Mission Impossible: Fallout in Guy Ritchie’s style.

Five Eyes, the international intelligence agency, recruits MI6 agent Orson Fortune (Statham) to prevent the sale of a deadly new weapons technology that threatens to disrupt the world order.

The performances are average with Hugh Grant stealing the show as the (usual) charming billionaire/guy who deals in arms and all, who’s witty as hell. Jason Statham on the other hand is his usual self. He proves once again that he can’t act. Aubrey Plaza is good and funny but isn’t as memorable as Hugh Grant. Josh Hartnett is funny and average.

Ritchie is at his worst and weakest, with no shot feeling entertaining or full of adrenaline (which it should). His screenplay is weak as well. The cinematography is average and bland. However, the music is worth remembering.

Operation Fortune is a bad film technically but isn’t boring by any means.
