Boudi Canteen directed by Parambrata Chatterjee (who is brilliant as the introverted husband Sourish) is a sweet and easy-flowing film that talks about the right to feminism as well.
Poulomi (an outstanding Subhasree Ganguly) is a homemaker who is also a teacher in a reputed school. However, her passion lies in cooking. Her journalist husband Sourish takes homemade tiffin to work much to the delight of his co-workers who relish the food made by Poulomi and start detesting the tasteless food served to them by a local canteen run by Bablu (a gum-chewing unpolished and convincing Soham Chakraborty).
Bablu requests Sourish to make Poulomi join him as a 50-50 partner. Poulomi accepts without the knowledge of her strict mother-in-law (a graceful show-stealing Anusua Majumdar). In the meantime, Sourish loses his job because of a chit-fund scam his company’s MD is involved. Poulomi stands by her family through thick and thin during this time of crisis.
The film boasts of the solid teamwork of all the main characters and they blend so well with the story that Parambrata Chatterjee deserves all the kudos. The chemistry between Poulomi and Sourish is heartwarming and beautifully executed. The film has taken a cue from the self-made chef Amna Said Khan. There’s a reference about her in the film as well.
A must-watch simple film beautifully told.
