Purulia: Bhowanipur 75 Palli Puja committee celebrated World Daughter’s Day on September 26 by distributing clothes to kids of 250 Chhau dancers at Charida village in Purulia as their CSR initiative. This year they have taken up the challenge to discover the theme “Manobik” and uplift the morale of Chhau dancers during Durga Puja. Bhowanipur 75 Palli is one of the eye catching pujas of the city for its innovative concept and style of celebration. This Puja is particularly famous for its unique style of pandals and also for the social work which the committee carries out throughout the year.
The name 'Bhowanipur 75
Palli' is regarded as an emerging star amongst the leading theme
pujas of south Kolkata. For the past few years this Puja has been presenting a
new theme each year which has created a firm place in millions of heart across
the globe, likewise keeping the continuation going in this year 2021 our puja
came up with a new line of thought “Manobik”. The Bhowanipur 75 Palli puja
committee has decided to come to the aid of Chhau artistes of Purulia district, who have been
badly hit by the lockdown. 'Chhau, a traditional dance form, has performers
retelling episodes of Ramayana, Mahabharata and the puranas, donning colourful
costumes and masks. They will depict a small village of Purulia and will bring
the government enlisted Chhau dancers and their families to Kolkata.
Subir Das, Club Secretary said,
“We are dedicating this puja to kids & family members of Chhau artists in
Purulia, donating a major share of the subscription and the state’s dole to
them, along with making the premises available for them to perform and sell
their goods. We have donated clothes to kids of 250 Chhau Dancers on the occasion of World Daughter’s Day at Charida Village in Purulia & will be also giving
new clothes to the family members of 'Chhau'
dancers by supporting 50-odd
families during Durga Puja. This initiative is taken in keeping
with the financial losses everyone is facing due to the pandemic. Many artistes
and craftsmen are facing financial hardships as festivals and fairs have been
called off across the country amid the pandemic. We are inspired by our CM Mamata Banerjee and will do
our bit to help at least some of them.”
