Kolkata: A day after Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari met Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, the Trinamool Congress on Friday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the removal of Mehta with immediate effect as the TMC fear that Suvendu meeting him might influence the Narada and Sarada scams. Adhikari’s name has been mentioned in both the scams.

“In the Narada bribery scam Suvendu Adhikari was seen taking bribe in the sting operation and prime accused of the Sarada chit fund scam the prime accused Sudipta Sen had written several letters stating that Suvendu had taken money from him. After investigation both the ED and CBI found Suvendu guilty and his name is in the FIR. His visit to the Solicitor General at his residence might influence the cases,” the letter read.

The TMC spokesperson and state general secretary, Kunal Ghosh, said that Suvendu should be arrested immediately as his name figures in the FIR. He is also trying to take the BJP’s help to set himself free from the case.

The West Bengal BJP vice-president Jai Prakash Majumdar said that TMC is trying to malign the BJP just to hide their own failures.

However the Leader of Opposition said that he couldn’t meet Solicitor General Tushar Mehta as Mehta refused to meet him.

The Solicitor General in a press note said that around 3 pm on Thursday Suvendu without any prior notice had turned up at his place but as he was busy with his pre scheduled meeting he had sent a message to Suvendu through his PA that he was unable to meet him.

Meanwhile, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee took to Twitter where he tweeted, “Mr Mehta's efforts to dismiss speculations regarding his clandestine meeting with @SuvenduWB can only be valuable if he makes all CCTV footage public until Mr Adhikari was in his residence. Moreover, was Mr Adhikari present in the SG's residence without prior appointment?”
