Kolkata: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up the BJP National Vice-President Mukul Roy on Thursday to enquire about Roy's wife's health, amid speculations about Roy being wooed by Trinamool Congress.
Roy's wife is in
critical condition on ECMO support. She is being treated for Covid-19 infection
in a private hospital. Roy and his wife had both tested positive for Covid
after the state assembly elections.
This comes a day after Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee visited Apollo Hospital to see Roy’s wife who is undergoing Covid treatment.
Though Roy himself
didn’t comment on this development, BJP leaders said the telephone call between
the Prime Minister and Mukul lasted for two to three minutes.
Banerjee said, “My visit to the hospital should not be politicized as this is an old family-like relationship and it cannot be equated with any politics. Roy and we have political differences but Roy’s wife is almost like my mother and I have known her since my childhood,” Banerjee said.
Mukul Roy’s son
Subhrangshu said, “It was a courtesy visit by Abhishek as he has known my
mother for years. Abhishek can be from a different ideology but we
know each other since childhood. He was at the hospital for 10 minutes and
inquired about my mother’s well-being.”
